What does it take to build fast simulators for cloth and thin
shells—in particular to do so with code that is simple to implement,
debug, and maintain? Our group's belief is that simple geometric
observations help to address all these goals. I will survey my
students' recent work on the discrete differential geometry of thin,
flexible surfaces, and focus on a couple simple geometric observations
that lead to efficient and simple models for bending, stretching, and
artistic control of cloth and thin shells.
