The Taub Faculty of Computer Science News and Announcements
Warm congratulations to Daniela Bar-Lev, Alona Levy-Jurgenson and Gali Sela for winning the Eric and Wendy Schmidt Postdoctoral Award for Women in Mathematical and Computing.
The award is intended to support promising Israeli female researchers who wish to pursue a post-doctorate in the field of mathematics, science and engineering, in international institutions, with the future goal of increasing the number of faculty members in Israeli universities. To achieve this goal, the award provides opportunities for Israeli female researchers to gain research experience abroad and establish their position in the global research community.
Daniela will soon finish her studies for a PhD under the guidance of Prof. Tuvi Etzion and Prof. Eitan Yaakobi. Her research deals with DNA-based storage systems with an emphasis on algorithms and advanced coding methods for correcting errors, reducing errors, and building algorithms to restore and retrieve information stored in DNA strips.
Alona completed her studies for a PhD under the advisement of Prof. Zohar Yakhini. Her research involved deep learning for high-resolution images of cancerous tissues (digital pathology) as well as developing algorithms for data analysis in molecular biology.
Gali is studying for a PhD under the advisement of Prof. Erez Petrank. Her research deals with algorithms for parallel data structures and distributed systems.
Great pride!!
