The Nobel Prize in Physics is being awarded today to two researchers from the United States and Canada for developing machine learning tools and artificial neural networks - Prof. John Joseph Hopfield (91) of Princeton University and Prof. Jeffrey Everest Hinton (76) of the University of Toronto, who will receive the prize for developing computational tools that simulate the activity of the nervous system. Hinton is one of the most prominent researchers in the field of artificial intelligence and who was once called the "Godfather of AI".
Prof. Michael Elad, one of the world's leading experts in the field of AI and artificial neural networks, explains the development of the field and the connection between the Nobel Prize in Physics and artificial intelligence researchers.
