On the occasion of the Technion Centennial, a time capsule was unsealed on campus, containing significant items that reflect the spirit of innovation, research, and learning that characterized the Technion in its first hundred years.
At the faculty, we chose to preserve the names of all of the faculty's graduates using advanced technology - encoding and storing information in synthetic DNA, a tiny but very durable molecule that can preserve accurate information over time and in an extremely small volume. This groundbreaking technology is expected to change the way humanity preserves knowledge in a sustainable, dense, and secure manner than ever before. This is research that serves as a bridge between the past, present, and future.
"Computer science has changed the world by orders of magnitude - but behind this revolution are, first and foremost, people: over 10,000 faculty graduates, women and men who lead research and industry in Israel and around the world, and create a spectacular, groundbreaking and innovative reality," notes Prof. Danny Raz, Dean of the Faculty.
The capsule will be opened in 2124 - on its 200th birthday - at which time we will invite researchers to open GitHub and extract the data using the following link: https://github.com/omersabary/Technion100CS
Thanks to all the contributors to the initiative: Dr. Omer Sabary, Prof. Eitan Yaakobi, Prof. Zohar Yakhini, Prof. Gershon Elber and Dr. Gala Yadgar
