Computerized data processing began in Israel in the 1930's of the last century

one of our top ten industries but there is still much to brag about [...]
The
military equipment company in Haifa tried its luck as a manufacturer of consumer
products. In 1969 when only two years old, Elbit launched the "Elbit-100"
computer which development had began two years earlier. The development team
leader was [the late] Prof. Shimon Even from Technion [CS]. It is the world's
first mini computer and the first commercial computer produced in Israel.
