There are over one hundred big cities in China, each with population more than one million. It brings us both challenge and opportunity to develop information processing technologies for establishing the urban service system, based on understanding the behavior of people in these cities. In this talk, we will illustrate the evolution patterns concerning the business hot-pots, traffic, and/or flu propagation, according to analysis from Chinese social networks and other sources. The research is based on a typical big city, Nanjing, with 8 million people.
Professor Qiao WANG was born in 1966, in China. He received the BS, MS and Ph.D degrees in 1988, 1994 and 1997 respectively from Wuhan University, Wuhan, China, all in Mathematics. He joined the Department of Radio Engineering of Southeast University in 1997, then was an associate professor in 1999, and has been a full professor from 2001. He was a visiting scientist in Division of Engineering and Applied Science of Harvard University from 2003 to 2004. Since 2007, he was the Director of Signal and Information Processing Laboratory, School of Information Science and Engineering, Southeast University, in which he takes the responsibility for 40 faculty members. From 2012, he was the Head of Research Department of Multimedia Information Processing Technologies, Nanjing Institute of Communications Technologies, a new innovation Laboratory established in Wireless Valley, Nanjing, China.
During the past decade, he has led a lot of research projects concerning the intelligent transportation system, bio-medical and clinicial data analysis, and data analysis. His current interests include data analysis for urban information, information theory, and statistical signal processing. He holds 8 patents, and published a series of papers in signal/image processing and related areas in international referred journals and conferences, such as IEEE Transactions on Information Theory, IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing, Image and Vision Computing, ISIT, ICASSP, and so on.
