In information science, ontology is a structured framework for organizing information which represents knowledge as a set of concepts and the relationships between them.
In this talk we will present our method which, given a domain, produces a multilingual ontology, that represents the main concepts within the domain, along with their attributes and the relationships between these concepts. Our process includes developing, relying on foundation ontologies, domain-ontology in English, and afterwards develop a corresponding domain-ontology in another language based on the English ontology. Our domain example, on which we performed the research, is Organized Crime.
The contribution of our work is the investigation of and comparison between several data sources and methods to create multi-lingual ontologies. In particular we examined the following subtasks: extracting the domain's concepts; creating an English ontology, i.e., the relationships between the concepts; and finally how to use the English ontology, which was created for a language with vast resources, to a language with far fewer resources (Hebrew).
