On December 23rd, 2007, Technion’s Computer Science Faculty held its second Alumni Reunion, dedicated to alumni who graduated during 1990-1995. 300 alumni attended the meeting in the Taub building, where they heard updates from the Technion Vice President and the CS Dean. Dr. Yaron Kanza has joined the CS department. His main area of research is database theory. Dr. Kanza received his PhD in 2004 from the Hebrew University. After his studies he did a Postdoc at the University of Toronto.

On September 25th, 2007, the IEEE ISRAEL LIFE MEMBER GROUP and the compote science department organized an event to honor professor Abraham Lempel, IEEE Life Fellow, for being awarded the 2007 IEEE RICHARD W. HAMMING MEDAL “For pioneering work in data compression especially the Lempel-Ziv Algorithm”. After the greetings, Prof. Lempel gave a talk about the history of the Lempel-Ziv algorithm.

The Computer Science department held a memorial event for Prof. Shimon Even on the 31st of May, 2007. The event included tributes by Prof. Alon Itai, and by Dr. Guy Even. Prof. Adi Shamir gave a talk titled "Cryptography: A Personal Perspective". The Shimon Even's prize for Ph.D. student was given to Arie Matsliah , who gave a talk about his work. Thirteen freshman with outstanding Entry Grades were awarded scholarships in a festive ceremony on March 12. The scholarships were sponsored by IBM, Intel and HP and awarded by the faculty Dean. Mr. Oded Cohn – Director, IBM Research Lab in Haifa- addressed the students on behalf of the sponsoring companies.

The software, called WiPeer, connects computers in a range of tens of meters (up to 200 meters), without the need for an intermediary; in the near future it will enable similar communication between cellular phones. Researchers from the Faculty of Computer Science have developed software that enables direct, wireless (WiFi) communication between laptop computers as well as desktops without intermediaries such as an Internet router. In memoriam Moshe studied at the Department of Aeronautical Engineering at the Technion. Already as an undergraduate, he excelled in his studies, and began to collaborate with senior faculty members in the Department, Prof. Arens and Prof. Kogan among them. He completed his M.Sc. studies with high honors. After receiving his M.Sc. degree, he began his doctorate at the prestigious MIT in Boston, Massachusetts. The open day of the Technion took place on Monday, February 12. Hundreds of visitors came to know better the faculty of computer science by receiving information from faculty and student attendants. Prof. Reuven Bar-Yehuda gave a general overview of the faculty, and Prof. Ron Kimmel gave a lecture about research in Computer Vision and face recognition.
