The Academic Ranking of World Universities for 2009 graded the Technion in the field of computer science in the 17th place in the world. The ranking, performed by the Institute of Higher Education of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, is based on several excellency factors such as number of faculty and alumni winning Turing award, number of highly cited researchers, number of published papers, and percentage of papers published in top journals. Three CS students won the 2009 Amdocs excellent project prize in computer science. In their project, called "Badsense - Using Google Advertising Mechanism as a Hacking Tool", Ohad Lutzky, Guy Treger and Tom Meiry managed to break through to websites using the "Adsense" - Google advertisement system - as a mediator, and so proved that hackers might do the same for bad purposes, without being identified. The CS "Techies" team, sponsored by Amdocs, won a silver Medal (7th place) in the ACM ICPC programming contest in Madrid. On October 21 2009 The President of Croatia, Stjepan Mesić, visited the Technion and The CS Department. He was accompanied by some of his government ministers and by Yonah Yahav, Haifa Mayor. The president was invited for a tour in the Geometric Image Processing Laboratory (GIP) where he was photographed by the lab singular 3D camera.

Congratulations to Eitan Yaacobi, a B.A. and M.Sc. CS graduate and now a Doctoral student at the San Diego Jacobs School of Engineering. Yaccobi will receive the prestigious Marconi Young Researcher Prize, awarded by the Marconi Associationon on a festive dinner during the association conference. Congratulations to Prof. Shaul Markovitch who received the 2009 Ray and Miriam Klein Research prize, in a ceremony that was held on September 15, 2009, at the Technion's Vice President for Research office.

CS Students, Doron Singer, Oren Kislev and Michael David Fisher won the first prize in the Technion's Innovation Award Competition 20007/08. The project, which came in first out of 20 projects submitted to the committee, was advised by Dr. Eli Ben-Sasson, and was titled: "Materializing a Real World of Holographic Proof System". Congratulations to the winners.

On Wednesday noon of 1.7.09 the Computer Science Department at the Technion gathered to celebrate the end of the year in drinking and playing. Students and faculty competed in a volley ball game. Faculty, assistants and stuff poured beer to enthusiastic students and everyone enjoyed backgammon, ping-pong, and computer games.   We are all looking forward now to the end of next year.

SSDL Yearly Project iinvites CS faculty members, staff and students to the software engineering annual presentation in the SSDL (Systems and Software Development Laboratory), on Monday, July 6th, 10:00-12:00, Room 236. This year's project topic is: "Synchronizing software development teams in a distributed environment".

On 25th of June, 2009, the computer science department celebrated the graduation of 157 students. Nine of the students received president excellency designation, and 37 received Dean Excellency designation.
