On Wednesday, November 19, 2008, the computer science department hosted an open day for potential graduate students. The events included a Q&A session with the Dean, Prof. Eli Biham, and the vice dean for graduate studies, Prof. Danny Raz. Ph.D. student Mark Silberstein gave a talk on his research.

On November 9th the Computer Science Department opened the 2008 new school year and held a special orientation symposium for the new students. We welcom 270 new students that have joined the department this year.

On Sunday, November 9th, the CS department celebrated the change of deans and the opening of the school year. During the ceremony, speeches were carried by both the former dean, Prof. Oded Shnmueli; who is serving now as the vice president for research, and the new dean, Prof. Eli Biham. In addition to congratulating Prof. Shmueli, the new dean expressed his wishes that the coming school year will be free of problems such as wars and strikes. reminisces from CS Graduation Ceremony 2008

On July 22nd New Jersey governor Jon Corzine has visited the Faculty of Computer Science. Following a brief presentation by the Dean, Prof. Oded Shmueli, the governor visited the Intelligent System Laboratory (ISL) and was hosted by Prof. Freddy Bruckstein and Mr. Ronen Keidar. Prof. Bruckstein described some of the lab's projects, including the autonomous mini-helicopter (shown in the picture) that also performed a short test flight.

On Thursday, July 31, 2008, the annual ceremony celebrating excellence in Computer Science studies took place in the faculty. During the ceremony, fellowships were awarded to fourteen exceptional Computer Science students. The fellowships are awarded by the fund in memory of Assaf Lavie founded by Check Point Software Technologies, the fund in memory of Aviva Feldbaum contributed by Microsoft Research and Development, and the Amodocs Israel fund. Excellent CS Students Program (SAMBA) Dean Excellence and Sechem Excellence Followships Award Ceremony will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2008, at 16:00, in Auditorium 2, Taub Computer Science Building. The fellowships are granted by Check Point Assaf Lavi Foundation; Microsoft Aviva Feldbaum Foundation and Amdocs. More details about the SAMBA program.

A seminar on Electronic Elections was held in the Computer Science Department of the Technion in cooperation with the E-Gov Department in the ministry of finance. The seminar presented a new system to be used in the coming municipal elections on November 2008, and discussed security and secrecy aspects of electronic elections.

Hundreds of visitors came to know better the faculty of computer science by receiving information from faculty and student attendants.
